The book concerns a sixteenth-century manuscript from the colonial New Spain, containing a trilingual dictionary in Spanish, Latin, and Nahuatl. The manuscript is the oldest known lexicographic work in one of the indigenous languages of the Americas. It was presumably created by a Nahua intellectual working in a Franciscan milieu, most probably in the Colegio de Santa Cruz de Tlatelolco. The book presents an analysis of the Nahuatl lexis attested in the dictionary, focusing on the influence of the Spanish culture and its languages—Castilian and Latin.
Keywords: sixteenth-century manuscript, New Spain, lexicographic work, languages of the Americas, Nahuatl lexis, Colegio de Santa Cruz de Tlatelolco.
