This volume is dedicated to Professor Andrzej Kempisty, the doyen of Polish prehistoric archaeology. Apart from a reminiscence about the professor's activities in Nemrik (Iraq), the first part contains various articles concerning prehistory in Poland and Belarus. The next part includes texts related to the broadly understood Mediterranean and Near Eastern archaeology, which also deal with the reception of antiquity in Polish and European culture.
The volume is published at a time marked by the 100th anniversary of archaeology at the University of Warsaw, as reflected in the essays of Professor Stefan Karol Kozłowski, another important figure in Polish archaeology.
