Key issues covered in the issue are: the European Green Deal and its theoretical underpinnings, and the impact of sustainable digitisation on innovation and the economy.
The first article presents an analysis of the concept of the EGD, which implies a profound transformation of the EU socio-economic system towards climate neutrality and sustainability. The authors examined how the EGD defines the relationship between humans and nature, what model of civilisational development it proposes, how it relates to knowledge, science, and technology, and what values underlie it.
Subsequent texts discuss issues related to digitalisation, innovation, and sustainability in the EU. One proposes a model for managing innovation in IT-based services that considers three aspects: value creation, delivery, and capture. Another article presents the concept of “sustainable digitisation”, which is about harnessing digital potential for the benefit of the EU economy, while respecting the citizens’ rights and privacy as well as environmental constraints. The author of the text analyses measures to support “sustainable digitisation” in EU countries, which should correspond to sustainable development goals.
The concept of “zero waste” and resource-efficient principles in EU policies is addressed in an article that describes how the EU is dealing with the problem of excessive production of municipal waste and what strategies are being taken to reduce its volume and negative environmental impact.
The authors of the following articles deal with cultural heritage in the context of digitalisation and sustainable development, the identification of challenges and problems in the process of implementing the circular economy model in the Baltic Sea Region, as well as the problems of restructuring the economy of areas with a predominantly coal-based industry and the exchange of experiences between the European Union and Ukraine in this regard.
