The book is an original introduction to the history of relativistic cosmology of the 1920s and 1930s, to the history of the models of the universe developed by Einstein, de Sitter, Friedman and Lemaître. Eddington's text is preceded by an extensive introduction by prof. Marek Demiański from the University of Warsaw, who places the considerations of the English scientist in the vast panorama of contemporary cosmology.
